Japanese VIN decoding

Can anybody tell me what year this data plate is from and which letter represents that year? Thanks

Check out this site. It lists all Toyotas by body # prefixes like KZN, LN, ect. JDM frame numbers are not like US vins. The long number after the model tells when the vehicle was built in numerical order.

I assume you're talking about the 2L-TE head that goes with the data plate? No, it's never had any problems in almost two years of use and several trips to Canada, one towing a portable sawmill. The current owner did manage to burn out the flywheel pulling logs off the beach though.

Interesting...just goes to show there are exceptions to every rule - or maybe the head was already replaced.

mine is still holding up very well. i found out that there was a recall around 1993 in japan and that was when the dealership where my lj78 was sold had the 2lte head scrapped for the 3l head amazing

Great info. Now is there a sticker or some other information on the truck that will allow others to tell if this was done on their trucks??
